portrait of laura coily dietrich

Laura Coiley Dietrich is a fine artist and children’s book author from Northeast Ohio. She became interested in art (more specifically painting) at an early age, when she used to watch her mother create elegant figures in oils using a mini aluminum tripod on the dining room table. Dietrich knew then that she wanted to be an artist too.

Her work is mostly black and white portraiture, and the artists that have influenced her work over the years include Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Romare Bearden, Ezra Jack Keats, Aminah Robinson and her mother, Maria Dixon Coiley. Dietrich wrote and illustrated the children’s book, A is for Africah.
